Abstract: | INVESTIGATION OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF Fe304, PAl' AND P ANI/ Fe304 FILLED PKO BASED POLYURETHANE COMPOSITES Liow Chi Haol, Khairiah Haji Badril & Sahrim Haji Ahmad" ISchool of Chemical Sciences & Food Technology 2School of Applied Physics Faculty of Science & Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 43600 UKM Bangi, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia ABSTRACT Polyurethane (PU) with 15 wt % magnetite (Fe304), polyaniline (PANI) and PANI/ Fe31 loading to prepare composites namely PUI5, PP and PPM was successfully pre pari using in-situ polymerization method. The prepared composites were characterized by FTI impact testing, flexural testing and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). From the FTI investigation, there is shifting of the carbonyl (C=O) and NH functional group in PUJ compare to PAN] filled PU (PP and PPM), the shifting of the peak indicate there hydrogen bonding occurred between the C=O (proton acceptor) of urethane with N (proton-donator) of PAN!. PPM show the highest impact strength and flexural strengt that is 4875 kJ/ m2 and 42 MPa, respectively, however, it show the lowest flexural moduli (1050 MPa) compare to the other two composite. All three samples show two degradatic step as observed in thermogram TGA and DTG. PUI5 has the higher onset degrodatic temperature in the first degradation step compare to PP and PPM, as for second su degradation, PP with the highest PANI content result in greater onset degradatic temperature.
