Abstract: THERE are still many debates; disagreements, interpretations and interest around the discourse of "democracy". A claim made by some people (in the West for instance) who are known as the leading proponents of the struggle for democracy is not always accepted, and is even sometimes rejected, by others (in the East) who ,make similar claim. Nevertheless, democracy as commitment to the principles of freedom : equality and sovereignty of people to govern all issues in public affairs is essentially in line with Islam
