dc.description.abstract | Intellectual character is an integrated perspective which is trying to explain 6 dispositions which are needed by the person in order to have and to actualize their intelligent behavior in every moment of their lives. The dispositions are open minded, curious, metacognitive, seeking truth and understanding, strategic, and skeptical. This disposition will help the person to be life long learners. Intellectual character affected by many factors and the most important factor is how the environment scaffold them (Ritchhart, 2002; Shanti, 2005). The sources in environment defined in this research as fund of knowledge. This article reports about the research which is conducted in DKI Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The first objective of this research is to find out whether fund of knowledge effect intellectual character. Quantitative method was used to achieve this objective. From 65 respondents, there is significant effect of fund of knowledge to intellectual character (Beta=0.249, p=0.46). The regression equation is Y = 63,007+0,148 X+ e. We also can say that intellectual character = 63,007+0,148 fund of knowledge + error. To elaborate this finding, researcher use qualitative method in order to find out the detail of fund of knowledge differences be- tween higher and lower level of intellectual character respondents. Depth interview was done to respondents in the higher and lower group of intellectual character level. It is concluded that the formulation of the question, the sharing of parents' daily experiences, the explanation of the parents values, and the behavior of the teachers are different between groups. It is recommended that the subsequent research will explore other factors that effect intellectual character. | en_US |
