Leisure socialization and lifelong learning

Abstract

According to Drucker (2002), no century in recorded hi story has experienced so many social transformations and such radical ones as the twentieth century. These transformations have brought along changes in the nature of work and life styles of the work force. Leisure is increasingly becoming an important component in Malaysian society. This is because leisure is a concept which has a distinctive meaning only in societies which has an industrial pattern of social organization and Malaysia is steadily heading towards full developed nation status. This paper examines the need to give serious and overdue attention to the preparation of our society for a higher quality of life through life-long learning, Education is more than preparation for employment-it is intended to be preparation for the fullest kind of living Leisure and education are inextricably related. In modern society overflowing with new knowledge and skills, education is more and more a life-long process. Specifically, this paper analyses the neglected role of co-curriculum activities in the education system and proposes how it can be effectively used life-long towards leisure socialization.
