dc.description.abstractWomen participation in the global workforce is increasing. Women face a slightly more complex task of negotiation their career than men, given societies gender related expectations and norms. Some times it is hard for women employees to keep their work because of pregnancy, having babies and caring for children. Multiple role planning is defined as having idea to engage in both career role and also on marriage and family involvement (Weitzman 1994). The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate factors affecting attitude of single women towards multiple role planning and the effect of this attitude on their life satisfaction among nurses who are working in Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia. This factors include; socio-demographic variables, occupational factors and responsibility to physically or financially support from their family members. The sample consisted of 175 single female nurses in Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia. Satisfaction with life scale and attitude towards multiple roles planning questionnaire were used to obtain data. Attitude towards multiple roles planning consist of four subscales including; knowledge/certainty, commitment, independence and involvement. The data was analysed by required test including t-test, Pearson or spearman correlation and linear regression. The result derived from this study showed that age is a predictor for degree of realism knowledge and involvement towards multiple role planning. Realism commitment towards multiple roles planning was negatively correlated with duration of work life. Realistic knowledge as well as independence and commitment towards multiple roles planning are predictor for life satisfaction. Nurses who provide physical support for their other family members than parent and sibling have higher realistic commitment towards multiple role planning as compared to those do not. Women suggested having a well structured plan in order to identify potential problem which may face during fulfilment of multiple roles. Therefore they can have in mind alternative approach to deal with problems of multiple roles lifestyle.en_US
