dc.description | This study is related to revelation and reason according to Hasan Hanafi and Nasr Abu Zayd. These two thinkers apply philosophical methods that conflict with the method of Islamic understanding of revelation and reason. They try to place the revelation and the question of Islamic faith as subjects that can be interpreted and explained freely and broadly as they state that reason should not be bound by the revelation text. They have made reason always in a state of clashes with revelation. Therefore, they apply the current western conceptual understanding of reality to eliminate clashes between the question of religious faith and the methodology of western thought. This study aims to expose Hasan Hanafi's and Nasr Abu Zayd's stand and thought on this issue, and explain the deviation of those who make revelation as a kind of human heritage and history. Similarly, this study reveals the errors of the method used by them to harmonize revelation and intellect by placing them both at the same level. This study also assesses their thinking by explaining the impacts that will arise from the spread of these methods and ideas in Islamic countries. The design of this study entirely uses qualitative methods with application of analysis, criticism and comparison approaches. The findings show that Hasan Hanafi and Nasr Abu Zyd grew up in western thinking enviroment and they formed their thinking based on what they learned from western universities and western figures that they admired. This has influenced their writing and study of the Quran in which they apply the western framework of thought as the source of perspectives. They together use hermeneutic methods in Islamic studies to achieve a renewal in the study of the Quran. Their study has led to a form of clash between God and man, texts and readers and reason and revelation. This study contributes to the exposure of the deviant flow of thought that cause some Muslims fallen into it and prevent any extreme intelectual attempts that try to interpret and explain the religious texts beyond the framework of understanding of the Quran and the Sunnah.,'Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis' is not available,Ph.D. | - |
