dc.description | Agile methods employ an iterative and incremental approach to software development. They respond quickly to changing requirements by involving stakeholders in the process. Developing software systems rapidly to cope with the incoming changes impose some challenges. When several requirements change simultaneously and fast, they become volatile and disorganized. This causes the prioritization process that determines which requirements to be developed becomes problematic whereas, requirements prioritization process is considered crucial in agile requirements engineering. This phenomenon is complicated particularly when it involves multiple stakeholders. The stakeholders have to reach a consensus under hectic and often disoriented situations. For instance, mismatched characteristics of the stakeholders can cause requirements conflicts which are considered as a big problem in requirements prioritization. This leads to an unsystematic and disorganized workplace, which affects not only the quality of the software systems but also the well-being of individuals. To get rid of this phenomenon, the agile software development environment should be organized. One solution to the problem is to organize the agile development environment. A process proven for decades in Japanese manufacturing industry offers a practical solution. The process is known as 5S: Sort, Set-in-order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. The five principles aim to create a safe workplace to protect the welfare of the individuals involved. This study aims to explore the agile software development environment by shedding light on requirements prioritization process and the applicability of 5S approach in this environment to overcome the wastes that may face the stakeholders. This study is therefore intended to propose a framework for organizing human characteristics in agile requirements prioritization that takes into account the process and people aspects based on the 5S approach. By applying a qualitative grounded theory method to gain valuable data to enrich the future work with new contribution, the research used in-depth interview as the main method, and observations as the secondary method to collect data. To get the best result, the data were analyzed using the grounded theory techniques (Open, Axial and Selective coding). The framework was subsequently evaluated through verification and validation. The verification was carried out by knowledge experts in the agile software development field. The validation was also carried out by member-checking approach through case studies involving industrial expert reviews using data from real software projects. The findings would contribute in requirement prioritization process in agile development and can become more structured through an improved housekeeping imposed by 5S, which later leads to not only fast delivery of high quality software systems but also a healthy development environment.,Certification of Master's / Doctoral Thesis" is not available | |
