dc.descriptionKnowledge management (KM) refers to the acquisition, creation, storage, sharing, as well as usage of knowledge in organizations. Knowledge Management System (KMS), as an IT-based system, supports and enhances KM in organizations towards organizational performance. Despite huge investment in KMS development, particularly in oil and gas industry, there were cases of KMS usage failure. The findings of past studies on effective factors of KMS usage are controversial and inconclusive. In addition, studies on KMS usage have rarely investigated a combination of human and technology dimensions. Though prior research has adopted information system theories such as TPB, TTF, and TAM; they have not integrated the three theories in a KMS usage model. Hence, the main objective of this study is to investigate the effective dimensions and factors of KMS usage towards organizational performance integrating TPB, TTF, and TAM through developing a KMS usage model in oil and gas industry in Pakistan. Twelve hypotheses have been developed framed on four research questions. The study adopted a quantitative design using cross-sectional survey and random cluster sampling involving 813 KMS users in oil and gas industry. From the returned questionnaires, 428 responses were workable and useable for analysis. The survey data collection and analysis was conducted over a period of six months. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modelling. The result of data analysis reveals that the instrument is reliable and there is a correlation between all items measuring four research dimensions and factors of KMS usage. The result of the study shows that seven constructs such as commitment, subjective norms, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, Task-KMS-Fit, leadership, and knowledge characteristics are significant determinants of KMS usage. The factors of trust, socio-political influences, KMS-Self-efficacy, and organizational structure have no significant influence on KMS usage. KMS usage has a significant, positive relationship with organizational performance (OP). This study has an important contribution to determining the factors that impact KMS usage towards organizational performance in oil and gas industry. The study develops a reliable model covering the most influential factors of KMS usage towards organizational performance, namely commitment, subjective norms, PU, PEOU, task-KMS-fit, leadership and knowledge characteristics. The theoretically integrated and measured model could be guidance for several industries for effective KMS usage towards organizational performance.
