dc.description | Tacit knowledge has been recognized as a key source of sustainable competitive advantage in organizations. Admittedly, it is difficult to be managed as it can only be sensed, observed or experienced. Various frameworks have been proposed by researchers based on humanistic, business and educational perspective. Presently, there has been no holistic framework that addresses tacit knowledge management in terms of transferability and applicability. This research aims to identify how tacit knowledge can be managed to ensure its effective transferability and applicability from the perspective of ICT. Thus, we investigate the nature, types of tacit knowledge and the mechanisms used in managing tacit knowledge. The study applied media richness theory to develop the framework. We employed the grounded theory approach to derive data from literature review, content analysis, thematic analysis, and semi-structured interviews with experts and practitioners in MNCs in Malaysia and Jordan. The data analyzed include an inductive on-going data analysis process that began with the first interview using open, axial, and selective coding. The analysis also involved counting frequency occurrence from the coding generated by grounded theory to find the important items and categories until the final theory emerged. The results of this study have shown that tacit knowledge could be transferred by using appropriate technology, based on media-richness theory in terms of degrees of tacitness. We identified that successful tacit knowledge transfer depends on choosing suitable knowledge transfer mechanism and the type of communication media based on various levels of tacitness. This study showed that applicability of tacit knowledge can be in many aspects such as in terms of improving decision making, solving problems or gaining new insights during problem solving; creating innovation and new ideas, increasing customer satisfaction, decreasing cost and time of production and in providing services. This will help organizations to effectively accomplish tacit knowledge transfer and utilization through developing more appropriate mechanisms.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available | |
