dc.description | Relationships between the majority and minority groups are often fraught with conflicts both directly and indirectly especially in issues involving politics, religion, social values and rights as citizens. Therefore, social media is often used as a social tool by minority groups to interact with the government and majority groups. In addition, social media is also an important space for minority groups to actively participate in the political arena. However, to date there is no study that focuses on the impact of social media on the formation of political views and the understanding of minority groups on the system of absolute monarchical government, especially among the Shiite Muslim minority groups in rural areas of Al-Ahsa. Al-Ahsa province was chosen in this study because the majority of its population is categorized as rural, dependent entirely on agricultural produce and is the majority area of the Shiite population in the country. The main objective of this study is to discuss the role of social media in shaping the awareness and political movement of Shiite Muslim minority groups living outside Al-Ahsa in Saudi Arabia. A quantitative approach was used involving a total of 380 participants through stratified sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using SPSS18 software through linear analysis and multiple regression. The findings of the study found that social media through Facebook and Twitter applications have been used as the main tool in shaping political awareness, political direction of minority groups, concern for politics, motivation for politics and active involvement in politics. The study also found that the use of social media has helped Shiite Muslim minority groups to determine political direction and highlight their voices in helping to form a stable absolute monarchical government system in Saudi Arabia. The conclusion of this study is that social media is the best tool for minority groups to remain relevant in the political arena and to be a voice to express dissatisfaction with issues related to discrimination, segregation and marginalization of majority groups. The implication of this study is that the Saudi Arabian government needs to provide a more balanced social media policy regardless of political persuasion and across social boundaries, especially among minority groups.,Ph.D | |
