This study investigates the conceptual metaphors of the Yemeni Arab Spring (2011 – 2013) based on Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) and Critical Metaphor Analysis CMA by Charteris-Black (2004). Fifty online opinion articles from Al Jazeera English website were retrieved and analysed qualitatively to identify Arab Spring metaphors. The analysis of conceptual metaphors of the Arab Spring involved three stages comprising identification, explanation and interpretation. The identification phase involved identifying metaphors as frames of concepts which subsume other metaphors within the same frame based on the view of conceptual metaphor of Lakoff and Johnson. The identified metaphors are explained in the light of Charteris-Black's view of the shift of meaning that occurs between two different concepts to produce the conceptual metaphor. The sense relations that resulted from explaining the identified metaphors are interpreted in the light of the context established by the text itself and the broader political and social context. The investigation identified 13 frames of conceptual metaphors of Arab Spring which are natural force, game, theatre/play, business/transaction, journey, motion, a story, religion, source of wealth, a target of piracy, medical treatment, control/authority and a complex concrete object. These main frames subsume further mappings that fit within each frame. The interpretation of the identified metaphors revealed that the opinion articles in general, conceptualized Arab Spring in Yemen at its initial stages as an irresistible force that overwhelmed Arab nations and the ruling systems, journey and motion. At the later stages when groups of power reacted to the Arab Spring, the opinion articles conceptualized Arab Spring as a target for many phenomena that sometime involve manipulation, as in the conceptual metaphors of business, game, play, religion, and other times risk and danger as revealed in the conceptual metaphor of piracy, medical treatment and authority.,Ph.D.-
