dc.description | The aim of this study is to explore and determine the influence of legal environment, political environment, economic environment and philosophical values on freedom of information in print media of Malaysia and India. The objectives of this study are 1) to identify the level of legal environment, political environment and philosophical values in relation to freedom of information, 2) to analyze the relationship between legal environment, political environment, philosophical values and freedom of information, 3) to examine the influence of the fetters in legal environment, political environment and philosophical values on freedom of information, 4) to explore the legal environment, political environment, economic environment and philosophical values in relation to freedom of information, 5) to identify the level of freedom of information between Malaysia and India. This study used qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis to arrive at its findings. This study is based on a model derived from Hallin and Mancini's (2004) Three Models of Media and Politics theory. To explore the environments in relation to freedom of information in depth interviews and document analysis were conducted. To determine the level and analyze the legal environment, political environment and philosophical values in relation to freedom of information in print media of Malaysia and India, this study used a survey research to obtain data. Statistical analysis was performed on three variables viz. legal environment, political environment and philosophical values to measure their relationship and effects on freedom of information. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The descriptive statistics included, frequency, percentages, means and standard deviation while inferential statistics included reliability test, computed means, multiple regression and correlation. Results of the study showed, among others, legal environment, political environment and philosophical values are significantly related to freedom of information print media in India while only legal environment and political environment have significance on freedom of information in print media of Malaysia.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available | - |
