dc.description | This research traced the historical and the evolution of agricultural documentary and its implication to national development from 1945 to 2010. Year of 1945 was chosen as the beginning research year, due to its critical moment of the broadcasting expositions in Malaysia. After the defeat of Japanese in World War Two, communists started to expand and established their philosophy, radio was used to spread information to the people to combat these activities. There after radio is used to provide development information and knowledge to masses. Qualitative research method used with emphasized on content analysis of document and viewing agricultural documentary program. Mass Media development theory was deliberated to explain the phenomena of the usage of media in the country's development. This research has classified the evolution of agricultural documentary broadcasting into three phases, which are Beginning Phase (Year 1945-1970), Development Phase (Year 1971-1985) and Privatization Phase (Year 1986-2010). In the beginning phase, radio are widely used to combat the communism and spreading the "emergency period" condition across the country. In second phase, radio are utilized to extend information of development to increase the people's understanding and awareness through forum, radio drama, agricultural program and adult reading class. On 28 December 1963 television services are first introduced in Malaysia. The third phase witnessed the peaks of television as source of information and entertainments. A few television stations are given broadcast license by the government to operate in Malaysia. On the basis of privatization to improve service efficiencies, most of government agencies had been privatized; among the pioneer are Telekom Malaysia and Lembaga Letrik Negara to name a few. On this basis Malaysian media had boost up their quality with various programs, unfortunately agricultural program are deceased. Additionally the government are moving towards high technology industrialization. In 2004 during the administration of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, agricultural sector has got the right attention again with the emphasized on the usage of hi tech equipment, commercialization and Agrobio.
