This thesis investigates the interaction of morphological processes with syntactic processes of verbal inflection in Sudanese Arabic. It attempts to answer these questions: what are the morphosyntactic features of Sudanese Arabic verbs, what are the syntactic processes, syntactic relations, and constituencies of VP shell of Sudanese Arabic, and how is the movement to clause-left peripheral taking place. The data is attained via focus group interview of 15 informants, as well as document analysis to a dictionary of Sudanese Arabic and The Season of Immigration to North Sudan novel. The study adopts the Minimalist Program (Chomsky 1993, 1995) as the current theoretical framework of generative grammar. The syntactic computation towards the Logical Form in Sudanese Arabic starts from the lexicon; wherein lexical, functional and phrasal categories are considered as building blocks of any syntactic derivation. The focus on the analysis of syntactic categories is the morphological properties, features specifications, Selection and structural distribution. In relation to the morphosyntax, all lexical categories inflect for formal features agreement except for prepositions and adverbs. On the analysis of VP shell, unaccusative, unergative, causative, accusative, ditransitive, and applicative verbal predicates are examined and discussed along with the syntactic operations, processes, structural relations and constituents of VP shell. However, there is no morphological distinction between these verbal categories except causatives; the distinction is rather lexico-semantic. The sequential application of the syntactic operations Merge, Move, Copy and Delete, pushes the derivation toward establishing the left peripheral of the clause in Sudanese Arabic. The constituents which get preposed to left edge include the verb, wh-expression, topicalized constituent and DP in passive construction, with the common property of chain formation except in-situ wh-phrase. In all instances of movement, movement is motivated by feature checking requirement. The application of MP on Sudanese Arabic, makes Sudanese Arabic fits into a general syntactic typology of languages, thus providing cross-linguistic data to the field of theoretical linguistics.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
