dc.description | For the past three decades, the United Nations reported that global drugs abuse cases have increased by twofold. This phenomenon indicates how poor drug addicts' self-control is. To help them empower it, they are guided to practise dhikr. However, although they exercise the same dhikr, changes in their self-control differ. Therefore, this study aims to examine clients' demographical background, identify the perception and level of self-control among clients, explore the domains of the practice of dhikr exercised by clients, analyse the relationship between the practice of dhikr and self-control, and analyse the effectiveness of the practice of dhikr on self-control among clients. This study is a survey research carried out in three National Anti-drugs Agency (NADA) rehabilitation centres conducting the Islamic Spiritual Rehabilitation Approach (ISRA) programme. The three centres were the Perlop Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC), the Sungai Ruan CCRC, and the Tiang Dua CCRC. The total population for this study was 863 male addicts. 244 clients were selected as respondents using a simple random sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires that were administered using cross-sectional survey, and analysed using descriptive (i.e., frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential (i.e., correlation and regression) statistical techniques. The results found that the majority of the respondents had formal scholastic education, formal religious education, and were self-employed before rehab. More than half of them were first-time rehab clients. Findings showed that addicts had low perception of self-control and the majority had a moderate level of self-control. Findings also showed that there were four domains of the practice of dhikr; behaviour, speech, action and meaningfulness of dhikr. However, the relationship between their dhikr practice and self-control was very weak. Out of the four dhikr domains, it was found that the behaviour of dhikr could influence addicts' impulsivity, while the behaviour and action of dhikr could influence their self-centred. Overall, the domains of dhikr practice for addicts' self-control enhancement necessitate the NADA to assess its ISRA programme particularly in terms of its reaction, teaching and learning, attitudes and outcomes of the practice of dhikr on self-control post-rehabilitation and within the community.,Ph.D | - |
