dc.descriptionThe main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between motivation, self-esteem and learning reading and writing among primary school students in Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This study was also aim to identify the levels of motivation, self-esteem and learning reading and writing among primary school students. This study also attempted to identify the influence of motivation and self-esteem on learning reading and writing. The design of this study was a combination of quantitative and qualitative technique. The quantitative approach adapted from Herman's achievement motivation test for children and adults, Copper Smith's self-esteem test and an achievement test of reading and writing prepared by the researcher. The qualitative approach employed an interview as the research tool. The population of the study included all primary school students in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Multi-stages random sampling was used to choose the sample which consists of ٨٥٢ students. The study used descriptive and inferential statistics approach namely frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, person correlation coefficient and regression. The overall findings of the study indicated that the motivation was at a high level (٣٫٩١), self-esteem at moderate level (٣٫٤٨) and learning reading and writing at a high level (٠٫٧٤٥). The findings of the study also indicated a statistically significant positive correlation coefficient of ٠٫٢٦٨ existed between motivation and learning reading and writing. In addition, the study showed a statistically significant positive correlation coefficient of ٠٫١٥٠ between self-esteem and learning reading and writing. Also, the results pinpointed the influence of motivation and self-esteem contributed ٧٫٣٪ on learning reading and writing. In light of these results, motivation and self-esteem play an important role in recognizing levels of learning reading and writing among primary school students in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
