dc.description | The main issue faced by the cities worldwide such as Kuala Lumpur is inefficient in public transport. Due to this, the users forced to rely on private cars. Earlier studies focused on factors influencing car mode shift and mode choice behaviour. This study aim to discover and mitigate inefficiency problems by developing behaviour model with the following objectives. They are to develop a structural influent factors model using public transit for motor vehicles users; to explore use of the combining models of Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM); to evaluate the relative roles of combining these models with car habit and resistance to change; to gauge public transit passengers' behaviours by considering public transit involvement, service quality and behavioural intentions and lastly, to endorse predictors for the combined model. This study utilized 475 completed questionnaire that was piloted prior to the actual work. The conceptualized relationship model was analysed by using the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) approach with Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 22 and Analysis Moment of Structure (AMOS) version 22 software. The results showed that the respondents are significantly responsive to service attributes such as management of complaints, vehicle safety and cleanliness of the facility. All three variables of the TPB namely subjective norm, perceived behavioural control and attitude have the expected significant and positive effect on intentions towards public transit. Users' tendency towards public transit is positively by TAM variables specifically perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness construct. However, a negative predictor of intentions is the habit of using car. Social influence and social cognition are also significant in enhancing use of public transport. The results revealed that resistance to change is weakly associated with cognitive intentions of utilizing public transport, which affirmed the assumption that a predisposition resistance to routine alterations is a weak barrier for affecting cognitions about utilizing public transport. In addition, greater involvement levels are associated with better service quality assessments. Service quality has a direct influence on the perception of involvement. This study revealed that a situation is considered a factor that can prevent or encourage the utilization of public transport; results indicated that attitude towards public transit is negatively affected by a situation. The factors that discourage the use of public transportation are poor maintenance of public transportation facilities, limited routes of travel covered by public transportation network, remote location of stations, increased duration of travel when utilizing public transport and allocation of free parking spaces at work. Consequently, there is a good fitting of structural framework to assess the switching intentions towards public transit. The chi-square (χ2= 4474.826, df = 2582, p=.000) showed that this study is significant. The Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) exceeded the cut-off 0.8 by 0.803. The proposed models have good fit values with the data obtained from this study as indicated by the Root Mean Square of Error Approximation (RMSEA) which is less than the threshold 0.08 by 0.039. The validation of these findings done via a questionnaire survey on the opinions of 33 Experts who are experienced in public transportation.
