Description: Nowadays Libyan urban transport suffers from different transportation problems that impact on sustainability issues in terms of economy, social and environment especially in Tripoli city. Traffic congestion, accidents and air pollution which is increasing the risk to human health. The main purpose of a developed an expert system for sustainable urban transportation strategies is to achieve sustainability in the cities. Implementing sustainable urban transportation strategies to deal with transportation-related problems in the cities needs a lot of experience and extensive knowledge that can be achieved from sustainable urban transportation sources such as written sources(Journals, books, technical reports and interviews) and especially experts in the transport filed. However, the lack of sustainable urban transport experts who can assist transport engineers(domain experts are not available in big cities and small cities in Libya) is a concern. The Advisory expert system for sustainable urban transportation (ESSUT) is a system that has been developed in this research to assist engineers, students and decision-makers to recognize transportation problems that impact on sustainability issues in the cites and accordingly apply appropriate solutions. Knowledge of the ESSUT has been collected from human experts and published sources. The system comprises three modules including an economic module for sustainable urban transportation strategies, a social module for sustainable urban transportation strategies and an environment module for sustainable urban transport strategies. IF-THEN rules are employed to represent the knowledge base of the system. More than 205 rules have been generated. Adobe Dreamweaver CC 2015 Software is used as the building tool. For data analysis, both qualitative and quantitative data collected about the developed sustainable urban transportation expert system was analysed and evaluated using Microsoft Excel. Verification, validation and evaluation of the system have been conducted. The verification was carried out by asking two groups of experts consisting of 21 domain experts in transportation field and also three computer experts. The experts were asked to rank the parameters according to a 5-point Likert scale. Results showed that the average rating of answers to questions such as the usefulness of the system and quality of user interface was higher than 4, which means that the experts were satisfied. The strategic strategies and solutions to address the transportation problems were proposed by the experts during the validation and a matched was more than (70%) percentage of the answers were similar to the output of the system and overall assessment (mean value) of system evaluation was 4.61= (92%) percentage, which proved that the system has achieved its objectives during the evaluation of the system, and more than 90% of the respondents agreed to recommend the system.,Ph.D.
