dc.descriptionThere has been an increase of interest in the field of information hiding in images, especially colour images for security purposes and copyright protections. Steganography is one of the most distinguished techniques adopted to conceal secret messages in an image. There are many steganography techniques that are used by researchers to hide secret text data in an image, which focus on the standard Least Significant Bit (LSB) method. This standard method is considered the simplest and well-known process in which the secret message is hidden through the concealing of the least-significant bit of each pixel in an image. However, this method has a weakness in which, it is very easy to retrieve back the secret message from the image, because generally known that the secret message is placed at the last bit of the pixel. Researches that use the LSB method emphasize on the robustness aspect which is to enhance this weakness to increase the level of security, by increasing the complexity of hiding the message. This study focuses on applying a new technique to inverse the LSB bits of image pixels that hold the secret massage, according to specific patterns of some bits related to the pixels. This approach was applied to both green and blue colours in the colour planes, in order to raise the robustness level by using bit inversion. In addition, the new bit inversion technique reverses the bits of the image pixels after applying the standard LSB, in order to increase the capacity level, so that more data can be hidden in the cover image. Experiments have been conducted using a collection of standard images to evaluate the proposed technique, which give the Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) values of 72, 61, and 70 for Lena.jpg, Babbon.jpg, and Pepper.jpg respectively. From the experiment, we also observed that by using the bit inverse technique, less numbers of pixels are modified compared with the standard LSB method.,Master of Computer Science
