dc.descriptionThis thesis explore the Iranian women's experience of sexual harassment at workplace, its effects on the harassed female workers and the coping strategies employed by them and the available laws that protect them from sexual harassment misconduct. The thesis consist of three parts that are; part one of this study generally explain and describe the meaning of sexual harassment and its types, effects, consequences and also reviews on some international standards such as UN ) United Nations), ILO (International Labour Organization) about sexual harassment at workplace. The second parts focus on sexual harassment in Iran which is relatively widespread. It is overwhelmingly directed at women, especially those in less-powerful positions in the labour market. Analysis is also conducted on the Iran national legislation; its weakness and ignorance about harassment of working women at workplace and also the organization’s fault in not having a good and serious policy and programs to protect and support women worker in work environments. Finally some recommendations are made for Iranian legislations and the government authorities on how to protect women worker from sexual harassment at workplace. For the organizations, guidance is given on how to design anti-sexual harassment measures and to offer counselling to workers who have been victimized. This thesis uses qualitative socio-legal case study approach to draw data from the field using interviews and observation. Data from books, journals, statutes and websites are used for literature review and to support discussions for data analysis, findings, conclusions and recommendations. The findings revealed that sexual harassment at work is an unwelcome or uninvited behaviour of sexual and power nature, which is offensive, embarrassing, intimidating and affects an employee’s work performance, health, career or livelihood. It endangers gender equality and causes sex discrimination. One major problem in dealing with sexual harassment in organizations is its conceptual nature and non-protective and non-consolidated laws. Men and women generally differ in what they perceive to be sexual harassment.
