This study aims to examine the issue of ethnic relation in Kelantan, which is translated through the idea of sharing in the traditional performing arts. These art forms under review, such as the wayang kulit, dikir barat, menora, makyung, main puteri, silat and Malay joget serve as the main mechanism in bridging multi-ethnic community relations in Kelantan. Through the methods of close observation alongside intensive interviews on the selected population, this study, which looks into, among other things, the performing arts, role and function, practices and beliefs as well as social interactions between practitioners or leading characters, musicians, audiences, organisers, traders, staff and others, presents a scenario of sharing that occurs in Kelantan‟s traditional performing arts. This study also explores the factors and the impact of this sharing of the traditional performing arts. The study reveals significant cross-cultural appearance in Kelantan as well as the absence of racial polarisation in the traditional performing arts. This situation has occurred due to the dominant ethnic group, i.e. the ethnic Malays‟ practice of „openness‟ and tolerance of ethnic minority groups, namely the ethnic Chinese and Siamese. Meanwhile, the ethnic minorities are also able to accept and appreciate the Malay cultural heritage with ease as a result of the process of cultural assimilation that they experience. All three of these ethnic groups come together and collaborate on putting together a traditional performance. By highlighting the concept of „sharing‟ in traditional performing arts, the results of this study can be used as a mechanism or guidelines in maintaining Malaysia‟s ethnic relations.,Sarjana Falsafah | - |
