Description: This study examines the relationship between foreign equity ownership and corporate governance characteristics of Bursa Malaysia listed companies. The objective of this study is to ascertain whether the good corporate governance practiced by Malaysian companies is able to attract foreign equity investments. The sample consists of 346 companies listed on Bursa Malaysia between the years 2006 to 2008. The data used in this study is obtained from annual reports of the selected companies. This study employs a panel data approach to analyze the data. Corporate governance variables examined in this study include family ownership, board independence, multiple directorships, financial literacy of board members and audit quality. Results show that board independence and audit quality are positively and significantly related to foreign ownerships. On the other hand, family ownership shows significant negative relationships with foreign ownerships. Results show no significant relationships between multiple directorships and financial literacy of board members with foreign ownerships. The results suggest that foreign investors would evaluate the audit quality and integrity of the board of directors of companies when deciding on an investment in foreign companies. The findings provide a significant input for policy making purposes relating to significant role of boards of directors in promoting companies to the international market,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
