This research was conducted with the aim of finding out whether a wall built around a city has some impacts on the Quality of Life of people living in it. Kano city, Nigeria has such a wall. Its original purpose was to protect the enclosed settlement but today it is seen as a physical barrier dividing the city into two separate morphological units; inside Kano city wall (IKCW) and outside Kano city wall (OKCW). Together with a field measurement and observation, questionnaire survey was carried out involving a total of 400 respondents' selected using stratified random sampling system. The respondents were asked about the four domains of Quality of Life. Measurable indicator score technique was used to compute the quality of life score of the two settlements. Although no much significant difference is found among the morphological units, the occupants of the unit outside the wall are found to have better Quality of Life in the areas of human characteristics, housing, ownership of properties, harmony and tolerance; while the occupants of the unit inside the wall are found to be better in terms of accessibility to basic services, consumable items and place of economic activities. Both units have same perception of safety and peacefulness. Overall, the study tends to indicate that although household living inside the city wall have higher access to basic needs; it is the people living outside the wall that have a slightly better quality of life but IKCW is found to have better subjective Quality of Life. And the research could conclude that City Walls are barriers to Quality of Life of people living in it.,'Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis” is not available,Master Philosophy
