dc.description | The main purpose of this study was to investigate the situational (work-related stress and job satisfaction) and personal (personality traits and demographic backgrounds) factors that impact workplace deviant behaviour (WDB) as well as the moderating influence of personality traits on relationship between job stress and job satisfaction with WDB. The study also investigates whether subjects with different level of stress, job satisfaction and different personality traits differs in their WDB. Two hundred twelve participants who were working as civil servant in Malaysia participated in this study. A set of questionnaire (Workplace deviant behaviour, job stress, job satisfaction, and personality traits) was used to measure the studied variables. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16.0. This study found that there were positive relationship between job stress and WDB and negative relationship between job satisfaction and WDB. Conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness to experience, and emotional stability were found to be correlated with WDB, but extraversion was not correlated with WDB. In addition, this study found agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to experience did moderate the relationship between job stress and WDB, while extraversion did not moderate this relationship. Also, the results showed agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability did moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and WDB, whereas extraversion and openness to experience did not moderate this relationship. Although the findings of the present study showed differences in WDB between subjects with different age and organization tenure level, it was unable to find differences in WDB between subjects with different gender, marital status, education and occupational levels.
