The success achieved by the Grameen Bank (GB) of Bangladesh has spurred other nations such as Malaysia and Brazil to replicate this experience in an effort to pursue poverty alleviation via the microfinance approach. This research is driven by the Nigeria government quest to alleviate poverty in the country especially among rural women. Thus the study was conducted to examine the impact of microfinance on the socio-economic sustainability of rural women who participated in the People's Bank of Nigeria (PBN) microcredit programme in Auchi which is the Headquarter of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. This study used quantitative and qualitative approaches. The survey was conducted to 100 respondents and they were selected through the purposive and snowballing sampling. A number of respondents were chosen to be interviewed further to get more data about the study. A Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test was used to analyze the differences in the socio-economic variables before and after respondents joining the programme. The result indicated that statistical significant differences were found in most of the socio-economic variables. These socio-economic variables consist of ownership of facilities variables and income variables, including status of house, electricity supply, water supply, toilet facilities, cooking fuel source, and transport facilities, respondent's income and respondent's household incomes. There was also impact of PBN microcredit programme in women decision-making in the household. The greatest constraints in participating in PBN microcredit program are the sum given is small (not enough), delay in the disbursement of loan, some of the loan is channeled into family use, lacking of experience to apply and borrow PBN loan, lacking of vocational training on the usage of loans.,“Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis” is not available,Master of Philosophy
