dc.descriptionGlobal environmental degradation calls for urgent and well-structured awareness programme. This can be achieved through Environmental Education which is an open way to environmental consciousness needed to promote development and sustainability. However, implementation of policies concerned poses great challenges to developing countries. This research therefore aims to compare implementation of environmental education in Malaysian and Nigerian secondary schools. Emphasis was laid on Malaysian Government schools in Klang valley, Kuala-Lumpur Malaysia and Nigeria Government owned schools in Lagos State for the study. The quantitative data gathering strategies include direct observation, interviews and questionnaires. The questions are in single Likert-type items which the respondent was asked to rate from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Questionnaires were distributed in 10 schools, 5 schools were selected from each country. The respondents were 150 students and 50 teachers in each country. A total of 400 questionnaires were retrieved out of 420 given out to each country. Data and statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS 16 software. The questionnaire was vetted by a university postgraduate lecturer with many years of experience in research and supervising and the questions were modified with the appropriate information and then it was valid as instrument to be administered. The analyses were descriptive statistics, chi-square, t-test, significant difference and interrelationships of variables. Findings from analysis were followed by the deduced conclusion for this study. Most schools in Malaysia have conducive environment for learning Environmental Education but the situation was not so in Nigeria. Also majority of the schools in Malaysia have all necessary facilities but this was yet to happen in Nigeria. The students in both countries possessed favourable awareness towards conservation, environmental day celebration and environmental clubs but there was no enough motivation for proper implementation. However, the students in Malaysia have access to Environmental Education articles and magazines which were readily available in some of their schools but there were no provision of such in Nigeria. The mode and strategies of implementation adopted by Malaysia schools' teachers were more effective than that of Nigeria. The level of participation in education society and club among teachers in Malaysia and Nigeria differs greatly. Also the level of teachers' effectiveness in commitment to implementation in Malaysia and Nigeria are different. However, it is important to work towards the achieving the goals and objectives of Environmental Education in the school system that is why it must be included in school time table for interest of everybody in the community. It is high time for schools administrators, teachers and students to develop ideas that will foster implementation of Environmental Education in all secondary schools.,Master/Sarjana
