dc.descriptionIn English language learning, there are mainly two instructions being used in the classroom teaching which are the communicative language teaching and structural approach. This study investigates the students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes with regard to English language instructions focusing on the communicative language teaching and structural approach. The objectives of the study were (i) to investigate students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes towards English language instructions (ii) to determine the differences between male and female students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes in regards to English language instructions (iii) correlation between the students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes towards English language instructions and achievement and (iv) the correlation between students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes of the students towards English language instructions based on communicative language teaching and structural approach. 134 Form 4 students were chosen in a cluster sampling for this study. A set of questionnaire using 5 point Likert scale that comprises 50 statements was used as one of the instruments in gathering the data. Structured interview was also conducted with 6 students. Quantitative data were analysed using the descriptive and inferential statistics while the thematic analysis was performed on the interview transcripts. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used to describe respondents’ profile and to investigate students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes towards English language instructions and the t-tests were used to analyse the differences between male and female students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes in regards to English language instructions. For inferential statistics, Spearman and Pearson correlations were used to analyse correlations between the students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes towards English language instructions and achievement and the correlation between students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes of the students towards English language instructions based on communicative language teaching and structural approach. The findings of the study showed positive students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes towards communicative language teaching and structural approach. However, the weightage inclined more towards communicative language teaching. In terms of gender, there is no significant difference in beliefs, perceptions and attitudes between the male and female students. There is a significant correlation between the students’ beliefs, perceptions and attitudes towards English language instructions and students’ achievement as well as with structural approach and communicative language teaching.,Certification of Masters/ Doctorial Thesis" is not available-
