Description: Scholars of Sri Lanka island take heed of the spread of Arabic language, arts and literature. Even though the aborigines of the Island are of Buddhist ancestry, not Arabs, still some of the scholars of the Island are capable of making Arabic the medium for channelling their emotions, ideas and arts. Of the most important scholars is Al-Shaikh Ajwad who is said to have created beautiful Arabic poems in Islamic perception. The problem of this study is that less attention is paid on the island to the treasure of Arabic poetry produced outside its tradition, which is abound in Islamic arts and perception as manifested in the thematic poetry of Al-Shaikh Ajwad. It is not possibly addressed except through an analysis and explanation of his anthology of poetry. The objective of this study is to identify the biography, intellectualism, and artistic details in the poetry of Al-Shaikh Ajwad, and to analyse literary elements in his poetry, apart from highlighting Islamic perception through an analysis of the themes and contents of his poetry. This study relies on descriptive method through the collection of data from related sources, interview and analysis of artistic details, meanings and themes of the qasidah of the poet. As an outcome, this study shows that Arabic and its divisions of knowledge attain the attention of Sri Lankan scholars such as Al-Shaikh Ajwad whose personality is of an Islamic preacher and Muslim intellectual. His reading of Arabic works combined with his intention to teach Arabic and various kinds of Islamic knowledge enables him to write Arabic poetry. This is because he is gifted with the ability in internalising and producing art works replete with poetic language and language style, apart from his experience in dealing with various poems, including themes concerned with Islamic perception. This study also proves that the ability in producing Arabic poetry with unique artistic touch in non-Arab surrounding is something not impossible. Comparative study of the characters of works of the poet with pure Arabic literature points to how committed he is, having influenced by the Qur'an, the Prophetic Hadith, and Islamic perception. This study suggests that the poetry of Al-Shaikh Ajwad be taken as educational text, analysed of its rhetoric, translated poetically into other languages and acknowledged by those concerned in the Arab World.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
