dc.description | The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of different barometric pressures on the shear bond strength of veneering ceramic to zirconia and metal. Sixty specimens were prepared according to manufacturer’s instruction and were divided into two groups, zirconia and metal. The specimens were further divided into three subgroups of different barometric pressures (n=10), which are control, hyperbaric and hypobaric. Corresponding veneering ceramics with the size of 4 mm X 4.5 mm were fabricated on zirconia and metal discs with the size of 14 mm X 4 mm. The specimens were then pretreated with barometric conditions in hyperbaric and hypobaric chambers. Shear bond strength test was carried out using a semicircular knife-edge jig at 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. Mean shear bond strength for all groups range from 17 to 27 MPa. Group ZHo showed the highest mean shear bond strength (26.76 ± 7.37 MPa), while group MHo showed the lowest mean shear bond strength (17.02 ± 6.08 MPa). Statistical analysis showed that there was no significant difference in shear bond strength for groups condition and coping material alone (p>0.05). On the other hand, there was statistically significant interaction of condition and coping material (p<0.05). Tukey’s post hoc test revealed there was no significant difference between all groups except for zirconia and metal in hypobaric condition (p<0.05). Microscopic examination showed mixed adhesive/cohesive failure for most of the specimens. In conclusion, there was significant difference on the shear bond strength of veneering ceramic to coping materials and barometric conditions (p<0.05).,Tujuan kajian dijalankan adalah bagi mengkaji kesan perubahan tekanan barometrik terhadap kekuatan sisihan perlekatan venir seramik kepada zirkonia dan logam.
