Description: Luting cement space is one of the factors determining the adaptation of a crown as it facilitates the outflow of excess cement. However, its influence on retention and marginal discrepancy of CAD/CAM crown are still uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the effect of luting cement space parameter on retention and marginal discrepancy of CAD/CAM fabricated all-ceramic crown. Thirty maxillary right first premolar frasaco teeth were prepared to receive CEREC Blocs crowns. Samples were divided into three groups of different luting cement space parameter (70 μm, 90 μm and 110 μm). Fifty measurements of absolute marginal discrepancy (AMD) were done using stereomicroscope before and after cementation. All crowns were cemented using self-adhesive RelyXTM U200 resin cement with finger pressure and cured for 20 seconds. Samples were subjected to retention test using universal testing machine with crosshead speeds of 0.5mm/min. Maximum force to detach the crown was recorded in Newton (N) and mode of failure was identified. One-way ANOVA revealed a significant difference in AMD before and after cementation (P<0.05). There is an increasing trend in mean maximum force required to dislodge crown with increasing luting cement space. However, it did not differ significantly between groups (P=.440). The result shows that increasing luting cement space improves marginal adaptation of CAD/CAM crowns. Material failure near the crown margin was the most common failure observed. Thus, the absolute effect of luting cement space parameter on retention of crown was not identifiable in this study. Future study with the use of stronger material is needed for a more conclusive result,Ijazah Doktor Pergigian Klinikal (Pergigian Restoratif)
