| Description: | Colleagues in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, in particular from the School of History, Politics and Strategic Studies have undertaken research on borders for quite some time. Similarly the various disciplines under the School of Social, Development and Environmental Studies have undertaken studies on borders, for example, studies on the Singapore-Malaysian border dispute, Kalimantan-Sarawak border as well as Dumai-Melaka cross-border. The opportunity to expand the geographical boundaries of border studies to Thailand was enabled/facilitated by the formation of Thai-Malaysia Research Network (TMTT) and the recent visit to Thamassat University by collegues from UKM, UUM and UM. The network and the exchanges held in Bangkok last September (2012) was inspirational in terms of germinating the seeds of interest and enthusiasm amongst the researchers in the School of Social, Development and Environmental Studies, UKM in pursuing border studies, with scarce research fundings. |
