It is in this context that UKM has also significantly contributed in developing knowledge and expertise relevant to the country?s and the region?s environment and sustainable development. Just recently, His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia officially launched our Langkawi Research Centre (PPL) located in the state of Kedah. Its goal is to become a centre of excellence for research and expertise on natural resources for sustainable development of ecotourism, and UKM had been instrumental in assisting with the development of the first geo-park in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. We also aim for the centre to be utilised as a means to garner knowledge on the history of the formation of the earth, biodiversity and the cultural traits of the local community.
