| dc.description | The Thai Kingdom and the Malay Sultanates of the Peninsula enjoyed a rich and complex history before the twentieth century. This history was marked by conflict as well as political, economic, and cultural interactions. Importantly, there was a longstanding system of reciprocal relations in place. Besides ties at the political, economic socio-cultural levels, close ties at the family level have also existed and maintained till today. In fact, there have been inter-marriages between families in the two countries. Indeed, it is pertinent to note that the mother of Malaysias first Prime Minister, YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman was a lady of Thai descent. | |
