Description: Marital relationships are full of challenges; especially if couples face life-changing situations, such as immigration. However, marital relationships can be improved through professional help, counselling, and education. The purpose of this study is to examine how Transactional Analysis Group Counselling (TAGC) can be applied to help immigrant Iranian couples in Malaysia to improve their marital satisfaction. Four research questions guide this study: 1) How do Iranian couples describe marital satisfaction in the couples' interview before the group intervention? 2) What Transactional Analysis Group Counselling (TAGC) concepts are relevant to improving marital satisfaction among Iranian couples? 3) What are the perspectives of Iranian couples regarding the therapeutic factors and challenges faced as participants of TAGC to improve marital satisfaction? 4) How do Iranian couples describe marital satisfaction after the group intervention? Twelve couples (25 to 40 years old), who are Iranians residing in Malaysia, took part in eight TAGC sessions. Qualitative data is gathered through1) audio recorded the first semi-structured interviews for each couple, 2) audio recorded the second semi-structured interviews for each couple, 3) audio recorded of the eight TAGC sessions. All data is transcribed and manually analysed in order to identify the underlying themes. Results show that 1) Iranian couples face issues of the eight dimensions of marital satisfaction (MS), with more description of communication and conflict resolution. In addition, two themes that are not included in MS emerged from the immigrant couple's discussions were unemployment and social emotional process. 2) All TAGC concepts are relevant for Iranian couples; and related to Iranian culture when discussing marital satisfaction; self-awareness of ego state identification (with two subthemes), understanding the cause of conflict (with three subthemes), understanding the script and understanding marital games. 3) Iranian couples view therapeutic factors as group feedback, achieving group experiences (new and unique, preventive of future couple's problems, and a safe place for intimacy issues) and enhancing pleasing interactions isomorphism (not alone) between couple's groups. Challenges that couples face in the group include lack of self-disclosure, the gender role in Iran and spouse character. 4) after the intervention, couples descriptions of marital satisfaction were more focused towards relational issues, such as improvements in communication, conflict resolution, and family and friends, and with minimal mentions of individual and situational dimensions, such as spouse personality and finance. This study supports the applications of TAGC for Iranian couples; especially for those facing new situations.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
