Description:	In the course of the 21th Century, the problem of drug abuse reached global dimensions inflicting heavy tolls on the social, political and economic wellbeing of the world community. Various national proposals to deal with the plague of drugs on society have ranged from the legalization of drugs to the possible imposition of the death penalty for drug kingpins. However, domestic solutions alone may not prove to be the most effective combatants against internationally organized and highly sophisticated drug networks. International community has accepted that the issues of drug trafficking cannot be effectively addressed by individual governments alone and that the international community needs to have a multinational response. But in addition to the international attempts, it is important to investigate the regional efforts as well. Additional local expertise and effective mobilization of domestic potentials and responses may contribute to regional efforts. The general objective of this research is to analyse the role of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) as a regional organization to control drug trafficking activities. This research is a legal research which uses a qualitative method with a critical and structured descriptive approach based on the four aspects of the law.The thesis concludes that ECO efforts to control drug trafficking is fruitless. Lack of law harmonization, regional cooperation in criminal matters and monitoring power in one hand and lack of understanding of propellants for drug trafficking in other hand can be the reasons of ECO failure. Due to the existence of various reasons and incentives for drug trafficking in ECO region, the only practical solutions is joint responsibility of all members and implementing, rule of law and harmonized drug policy in the region. Besides that, operation of international conventions associated to these problems, emphasizing on harmonizing policy and regional cooperation, can lead to success.,Ph.D.
