This thesis examines issues related to sports crime among athletes in the Islamic Republic of Iran. It provides an overview of the different types of sports crimes from the inflicting of injuries, violence, and physical actions that contravene regulations to the increased use of performance-enhancing drugs. It then outlines a framework and provides recommendations for incorporating criminal law elements into sports crimes in line with international norms and standards. The study first presents an in depth review of the extent of criminal and contractual liability in sports laws and compares them against cases and legal issues in the global context. Secondly, the study discusses the morality and relevant religious aspects in relation to sports crimes with emphasis on criminal rules as stated in the Holy Qur'an. Thirdly, it examines the issue of responsibility and liability for crimes committed at all levels of the sports hierarchy in Iran involving athletes, trainers, coaches, and team doctors. Finally, a comparative analysis is made on sports laws and governance in the United Kingdom and United States as countries having a strong sports culture and background as well as a deeprooted adherence to the rule of law as a means to provide a better understanding on the areas of rules and regulations that need to be improved in Iran.,Ph.D.-
