dc.descriptionThe objective of this study is to determine the interdependence between CO2 emissions, GDP and renewable energy consumption in Malaysia. It intends to analyze the impact of renewable energy on the sustainability of economic growth and reduction of CO2 emission by developing business as usual and biomass using scenarios. By using system dynamic model and vector error correction model (VECM) of econometric analysis, the study aims to analyze the impact of energy consumption on economic growth as well as the impact of CO2 emissions on economic growth in Malaysia. The study also intends to evaluate the effect of renewable energy consumption on reducing the gap between GDP and Green GDP. The study result shows the declining trend of the availability of energy supply because of energy production. In the absence of biomass utilization, the actual non-renewable energy increases at an increasing rate whilst desired non-renewable energy increases at steady rate. The simulation indicates the divergence rate of actual non-renewable energy production from the desired non-renewable energy that shows the desired level of production lies lower than the actual level of production. Under business scenario, both in the short run and long run, energy consumption and CO2 emissions do not have significant impact on economic growth. Similarly, economic growth does not show significant effect on energy consumption and CO2 emissions which supports the neutral hypothesis. It implies that the utilization rate of energy resources does not significantly limit the potential of economic growth. The policy implication is that energy conservation and energy efficiency is the plausible policy direction under this scenario. In addition, the study result unveils that the utilization of biomass offsets the impact of CO2 emissions on economic growth and thereby reduces the gap between GDP and green GDP. This implies that the policy implication of biomass utilization leads towards low carbon economy via reducing the gap between traditional GDP and green GDP.,“Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis” is not available,Ph.D.
