Description: This study investigates the issues and problems related to e-waste management, especially computer waste. Other equipments like telephones, LCD projectors, printers, refrigerators and laboratory electronic and electrical containing equipments were also studied in the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Rapid population growth, high demand for electronic and electrical equipments (EEE), advancement in technology, change in consumption and reduction in the price of EEE in Malaysia have been a contributing factors to e-waste growth. There is lack of econometric studies on the awareness and behaviour of individuals on e-waste management, lack of studies on material flow analysis (MFA) in Malaysia and generally limited studies on e-waste in Malaysia. The aim of this study is to assess the current status of e-waste management in UKM Campus, review the e-waste management in Malaysia, examined the level of awareness and behaviour of UKM employees and students in relation to awareness and participation in recycling of e-waste as well as the factors that affects individual response in UKM, analyse the material flow and management practices of e-waste in UKM and recommended policy implications for sustainable e-waste management. To fulfill the set objectives, this study employed statistical and material flow techniques. These are logistic regression and descriptive statistics. Logistic regression techniques was used to determine the factors that affects the participation of UKM employees in the e-waste recycling and the relationship between the awareness on e-waste, with age, education and income level of respondents while descriptive analysis were used to assess the awareness and behaviour on e-waste and related issues, Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to investigate the relationship between selected variables and willingness to participate in e-waste scheme in UKM. On the other hand, the material flow analyses were used to assess the number of the studied EEE in stock, repaired and disposed. Further assessments were conducted through a survey questionnaire with the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia and a face to face interview with Kajang Municipal council (MPJK), in order to understand the role of the governement agencies in e-waste management in UKM. Results of this study shows relatively low level of awareness and participation on e-waste recycling and some factors like age, income, education etc. that influenced their awareness and behaviour. On the contrary, the respondents show great concern on the toxicity of e-waste and supported that they should be properly collected and recycled. The result of this study also shows that UKM utilised many of EEE which would become future ewaste. The result of the polynomial approximation of the time series of computer purchased in UKM indicates that computer purchase in UKM will increase over time. The government agencies still have much to do in promoting e-waste management. This study is expected to contribute towards achieving UKM’s zero waste campus goal. Furthermore, this study has suggested an implementation plan for decision making and policy implementation.,PhD
