dc.description | Research on the antecedents of tacit knowledge sharing has been widely researched but the interaction of human-based factors that encompass social, ethics, and individual together in one framework needs further research. To address this gap, this study examines the relationship among social capital, Islamic Work Ethics (IWE), and autonomous motivation in order to better understand the role of these human-based factors towards tacit knowledge sharing. Underpinned by resource-based theory of social capital, self-determination theory of motivation, and Islamic code of conducts, this study hypothesised that autonomous motivation mediates the relationship between social capital and tacit knowledge sharing, and between IWE and tacit knowledge sharing. Questionnaire surveys were distributed to the full-time Muslim academics working in five research-based universities in Malaysia. A total of 315 samples were analysed using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results revealed that social capital and IWE are positively related, both directly and indirectly, to tacit knowledge sharing. The results also indicated that autonomous motivation significantly mediate the relationship between social capital and tacit knowledge sharing, and between IWE and tacit knowledge sharing. Theoretically, the present study contributes to knowledge by providing support for the importance of (i) self-determination theory of motivation as a mechanism in explaining the relationship between social capital and tacit knowledge sharing, and also between IWE and tacit knowledge sharing, (ii) the role of social capital in influencing the autonomous motivation for tacit knowledge sharing, and (iii) the role of IWE in influencing the autonomous motivation for tacit knowledge sharing. Practically, this study suggests to the management of university and practitioners that maximum benefits from tacit knowledge sharing can be realised by providing a platform for social capital development and maintenance, fostering Islamic-based ethical values, and giving autonomy to the academics to increase work motivation.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available | |
