dc.description | The main objective of this study is to examine the mediating role of work-family balance and career commitment on the relationship between spousal support and subjective career success. Specifically, this study hypothesizes: (1) spousal support has direct positive relationship with subjective career success; (2) spousal support has direct positive relationship with work-family balance; (3) work-family balance has direct positive relationship with subjective career success; (4) work-family balance has direct positive relationship with career commitment; (5) career commitment has direct positive relationship with subjective career success; (6) work-family balance partially mediates the relationship between spousal support and subjective career success; and (7) career commitment partially mediates the relationship between work-family balance and subjective career success. Data were collected via survey questionnaire method from 417 nurse of hospitals in Jambi Indonesia. To test the hypotheses, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) statistical technique using Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS) version 22 and Preacher and Hayes’s method are employed. The result of the study showed that all seven hyphotheses are supported. With regards to the theoretical contributions, this study provides an alternative theoretical perspective to understand the relationship between spousal support, work-family balance, career commitment and subjective career success. It brings together the literature on role theory, spillover theory, conservation of resources theory and subjective career success in one model. This study also puts forward several practical propositions to enhance subjective career success in relation to family factors, such as creating family programs, providing supportive family supervision and fulfilling employee’s job expectations so as to help balance their work and family roles. Future studies can extend the findings of this research by using mediator and moderator variables in one model and distinguishing the type of spousal support or other social support deemed valuable to better understand the relationship between spousal support, work-family balance, career commitment and subjective career success.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available | - |
