This study aims to investigate the relationship among psychological capital, personal goals attainment and growth intentions of Malaysian SME entrepreneurs. Intention is the cognitive state which appears prior to the targeted behavior and is the best predictor of subsequent behavior. On the other hand, entrepreneurial goals represent their personal targets to achieve from entrepreneurial activities. Attainment of these personal goals is considered as the outcome of entrepreneurial behaviour and reflection of performance and success. Whereas, psychological capital is modeled to relate positively with performance outcomes, desirable attitudes and behaviours and negatively with undesirable attitudes and behaviours. Thus, based on content and process theories of Motivation, Naffziger’s Model of Entrepreneurial Motivation and Psychological Capital (PsyCap) Model, this study investigates the: relationship of entrepreneurs’ psychological capital with their personal goals attainment and growth intention; relationship of entrepreneurs’ personal goals attainment with their growth intention and the mediating effects of personal goals attainment on relationship between psychological capital and growth intention of SME entrepreneurs in Malaysia. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique was employed to analyze the data which was collected from 275 Malaysian SME entrepreneurs. The findings revealed that psychological capital positively and significantly predict the entrepreneurs’ personal goals attainment and growth intention. The study also found that only economic goals attainment and intrinsic reward goals attainment have positive relationships with growth intention whereas, family goals attainment is found to have negative relationship with growth intention of entrepreneurs. Although, perceived autonomy is considered as an important motivation for people to become entrepreneurs however, this study found that the attainment of perceived autonomy goals do not influence entrepreneurs’ growth intentions. Similarly, it is also identified that perceived autonomy goals attainment do not mediate the relationship between psychological capital and growth intention. In contrast, mediating effects of economic goals attainment, family goals attainment and intrinsic reward goals attainment are found on the relationship between psychological capital and growth intention This study made several theoretical and practical contributions to the existing body of knowledge. It tests the psychological capital resource in entrepreneurship context and highlights that, similar to other individuals, psychological capital also have positive and significant influences on entrepreneurs performance outcomes (goals attainment) and intentions (growth intention). Further, it contributes to the knowledge of goals attainment and highlights that the attainments of different personal goals have different influences on entrepreneurs’ growth intentions. In similar vein, it highlights psychological capital and personal goals attainment as important predictors of growth intention. The findings of the study provide valuable insight for current or prospect entrepreneurs and for governmental or other institutions, interested in development and growth of entrepreneurial activities, regarding the goals attainment and positive psychological resources and their positive influence on performance, attitudes and behaviours of entrepreneurs. Finally, some limitations of this study are presented along with some suggestions for future research,Ph.D.-
