| dc.description | Pengasingan pengetahuan dalam industri pembinaan tidak memungkin ahli profesional dalam industri ini mempunyai semua pengetahuan yang diperlu bagi mereka bentuk kemudahan fizikal yang kompleks. Institusi teknikal merupakan kemudahan kompleks yang dirancang dan direka bentuk mengguna rantaian beberapa proses termasuk mendokumentasi keperluan pengguna dalam dokumen Brif Projek (BP). Perancangan institusi teknikal tidak mempunyai kerangka penyediaan dokumen BP bagi kegunaan institusi teknikal yang berasaskan pengetahuan. Proses penyediaan dokumen BP mengguna pengetahuan yang cukup dan relevan dapat membantu arkitek pada peringkat reka bentuk. Kualiti dokumen BP yang diragui mengakibat pelan dan reka bentuk yang disedia tidak optimum dan keputusan mengenai spesifikasi kemudahan tidak disokong sepenuhnya. Walaupun terdapat kajian yang menumpu kepada proses penyediaan BP dan kaedah pengumpulan maklumat daripada pengguna tetapi tidak menfokus kepada penggunaan BP oleh kumpulan arkitek menyebab komunikasi arkitek dengan pengguna melalui dokumen BP terjejas. Keadaan ini menyumbang kepada output pereka bentuk kemudahan tidak tepat serta tidak berupaya menangani keperluan operasi pengguna. Oleh itu kajian terhadap proses penyediaan BP yang berkait dengan pengorganisasian pengetahuan tentang perancangan dan spesifikasi kemudahan fizikal dalam penyediaan dokumen BP diperlu. Objektif penyelidikan ini ialah membangun satu kerangka proses penyediaan dokumen BP kemudahan institusi teknikal bagi menyelaras penyediaan dokumen perancangan pembangunan kemudahan institusi. Kaedah carian dokumen, kajian kes dan temubual diguna bagi meneroka dan memahami proses penghasilan dokumen BP sedia ada sebagai asas bagi pembangunan kerangka proses penyediaan BP. Perancangan kemudahan di politeknik Malaysia diguna sebagai kajian kes. Pengetahuan relevan mencermin aktiviti operasi strategik yang dilaksana dalam kemudahan dalam pembangunan. Langkah penyediaan BP dan masalah berkaitan diteroka semasa proses analisis dokumen dan kajian kes. Analisis data mendapati terdapat kelemahan dalam proses penyediaan BP sedia ada selain mengenal pasti elemen cadangan kerangka penyediaan BP. Elemen tersebut digunapakai bagi pembangunan kerangka yang baharu dengan memasukkan elemen taksonomi dan ontologi. Kerangka ini merangkumi aspek pengurusan pengetahuan, kerjasama pakar dan proses membuat keputusan.,Fragmentation of knowledge in construction industry has resulted in a situation where no single construction industry professional has all the knowledge needed to design a complex physical facility. Technical institutions are complex facilities which were planned and designed using an array of processes including the documentation of end user requirements in a Project Brief (PB) document. There is no framework for end user documentation process which leads to difficulties in preparation process of PB document for the use of knowledge-base planning of such facilities. A quality PB contains adequate and relevant information that support an architect at the early stage of designing. This difficulty leads to plans not well designed and optimized, and decisions on physical facilities specifications not fully supported. There have been studies that focussed on documentation process and methods of information gathering from client by the facility designer. However, the focus was not on the use of PB by the architects as a communication tool with the user clients. This situation has led the architect to produce an output that does not address the operational needs of the end user. As such, a research on documentation process of PB and knowledge organisation for the planning and physical facility specifications during the preparation of the PB document is needed. The objective of the research is to suggest development of a technical institution facility project briefing framework for coordination of institution's facility planning document preparation. In this research, document search method, case study and interview were adopted to explore and understand the existing documentation process of PB as a basis for development of preparation process framework of documenting PB. The planning of polytechnic facilities in Malaysia had been used as cases in this multi-case study. Relevant knowledge reflect the operational strategic activities carried out in the facility to be developed. The methods employed and problems in the present production process of BP was explored during the process of document analysis and case study. The analysis of data uncovered the weaknesses in the present production process of PB apart from identifying the elements suitable for the framework for production of PB document. These elements lead to the development of a new framework incorporating taxonomy and ontology elements.
