dc.description | Cybercrime, as a computer-related crime, has become a significant global challenge. Among the types of cybercrimes is cyber harassment which includes activities that typically harass, annoy, terrify, offend or threaten the targeted people through e-mail, social media chat or other types. The issues of cyber harassment are among the dilemmas that negatively affect many families and societies in different countries in which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is no exception. The government reports have shown a massive increase in the cyber harassment in KSA. Cyber harassment usually poses a serious threat to millions of victims all over the world and incurs billions annually. There are academic, financial and ethical threats. Attempts to reduce this behavior are complicated as "cyber-harasser" may be anonymous, and not easy to identify. Therefore, a study is needed in identifying the factors that affect this behavior of the person involved. However, there is lack of studies that focus on investigating the behavior of cyber harassment, especially at KSA that look into the impact of technology factors such as technology awareness, social media influence, and cybersecurity knowledge on such behaviors. The existing models of cyber harassment behavior are general and inappropriate to be applied in the developing countries such as KSA. This study employs two theories, which are Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as a grounded theory in identifying the affecting factors towards these behaviors. The objective of this study is to build a model that consists of the identified factors. Universities students become the respondents of this study since they are easily get manipulated by others and the most active users of social media. A quantitative approach is adopted as a methodology for collecting and analyzing the data and employs questionnaires as a data collection instrument. A number of 1862 of questionnaires were used in data analyzing by using SPSS 22 version. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) and AMOS v21 were used to test the model. The quantitative data reveals that all the fit indices satisfy the recommended range of values which assumed that the developed model is acceptable. The results also show that the model fitness is appropriate and indicate the stability of the theory used in building the model. The three TPB antecedents, namely, Attitudes, Subjective Norm and Perceived Behavioral Control have been found to be statistically significant and positively related to intention behavior towards cyber harassment. Besides, technology awareness, social media influence and cyber security knowledge were found to exhibit statistically significant positive influence on Attitudes, Subjective Norm and Perceived Behavioral Control. The findings also revealed that the intentional behavior toward cyber harassment affected the actual cyber harassment. Moreover, the findings of the moderating variables of students’ gender, marital status and geographical region showed that only gender has a moderating effect. The proposed model was verified by ten expert’s domain by means of interviews. They are three academicians, three experts from Anti-cyber extortion unit in Saudi Arabia and four experts from software and computer systems. The experts had verified and confirmed the completeness and applicability of the proposed model in identifying the cyber harassment bahavior. This study could assist in shaping the direction of both theoretical and empirical studies on cyber harassment behavior, specifically on minimizing the effects among social media users.,Ph.D | - |
