dc.description | E-commerce (EC) adoption has become a necessity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Although the technological, organizational and environmental dimensions of this issue have been investigated, there are still several obstacles that lie in the way of successful adoption of EC in SMEs. Moreover, previous studies have ignored factors associated with individual attributes relating to employees and managers and information culture. There is also a lack of formalized models regarding the impact of internal organizational factors (technology, organizational, and information culture) on EC adoption as well as EC adoption’s impact on the organizational performance in SMEs, especially in the context of developing countries, including Palestine. Therefore, based on the extended Technology-Organization-Environment framework, this research aims to achieve the following research objectives: (1) to identify the main internal organizational factors that determine the adoption of EC; (2) to propose a model for the relationship between internal organizational factors, EC adoption, and organizational performance; (3) to investigate the effect of the internal organizational factors on EC adoption as well as EC adoption’s impact on the organizational performance in Palestinian SME, and (4) to evaluate the applicability and usability of the proposed model in the information and communication technology (ICT) of SMEs. To achieve these research objectives, the present research uses a mixed method approach. The data was collected from the owners/managers of one hundred Palestinian SMEs operating in the information and communications technologies (ICT) sector using questionnaires and semi-structured interview techniques. The study uses the Statistical Package for Social Sciences and the Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares method to analyse the data. The results of the quantitative analysis have revealed that the internal organizational factors; relative advantage, compatibility, top management support, IT readiness, technology trust, information integrity, information control, and information proactiveness all significantly affect the adoption of EC by the owners/managers of SMEs in ICT sector in Palestine. Based on the results, there is also a significant relationship between EC adoption and organizational performance. Moreover, the factors of complexity and information formality do not have any significant influence on EC adoption. The results obtained from the qualitative study that evaluated the proposed research model through its application on a specific ICT SME have confirmed the usability and the applicability of the model in the SMEs. The results of the current study have several useful implications. It is expected that the use of this model will help to enhance the level of EC adoption and organizational performance. Results may assist decision-makers in the SMEs sectors to structure their priorities in relation to the adoption of EC according to the degree of importance of the examined factors. In addition, to improve the organizational performance, the desire of EC adoption among decision-makers in the SMEs sector needs to increase. Finally, due to the scarcity of research on the issue of EC adoption in the context of Palestine, the results of the current study could be beneficial to policy-makers in Palestine.,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available | - |
