Description: | Vehicular Adhoc NETwork (VANET) technology is serving variable applications as it uses moving vehicles as nodes in a network to create communication independent of a central infrastructure. Various kinds of VANET problems rise up due to the fact that there is no central infrastructure and because of the random move of the vehicles. In this research, the problem of routing is considered. In deeply surveying and analyzing several routing protocols by considering all traffic-related factors and various techniques used in VANET routing protocols, VANETs cannot cope with network segmentation because of frequently disconnected networks in sparse environments. Therefore, several solutions have been proposed in the literature, such as integrating the VANET with other infrastructure networks through static gateways, fixed along the road. However, protocols based on static gateways can provide connectivity only in areas where they are deployed. Thus, the distribution and the requirement of static gateways is the main drawback of these protocols. To solve this problem, the mobile gateway concept has been exploited in which static gateways are replaced with mobile vehicles that function as mobile gateways. In this research, a new routing protocol for Robust and Trust Mobile Gateway Selection (RTMGwS) has been proposed. RTMGwS uses the characteristics of vehicle movements and variant routing parameters to select an optimal mobile gateway with high robust and trust connection to infrastructure network. The protocol is designed to spreading the advertisement messages by the mobile vehicle gateway over integrated VANET-UMTS network architecture without flooding the network, besides performing seamless handovers. The proposed protocol has been validated using SUMO and NS2 simulators over highway environment. The simulation results show encouraging performance obtained in terms of increasing the packet delivery ratio and overall throughput, reducing control packet overhead and minimized connection delay,Ph.D |
