dc.description | A taxonomic studies on Mealybugs (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) from Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia were conducted based on specimens obtained in fieldwork conducted between 2014 till 2017 and specimens of historic collection of Takahashi and Wirjati. The objectives of these studies includes to identify, construct species key, describe new species, redescribe new records and construct key to the fruit mealybugs from Malaysia and Indonesia A total of 777 specimens belonging to 40 species, 17 genera and two subfamilies which includes, 25 species from Peninsular Malaysia and 39 species from Indonesia were established in these studies. These 777 specimens includes specimen from Wirjati historic collection in Indonesian Center for Agricultural Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Research and Development (ICABGRRD), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Centre for Insect Systematics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (CIS), Takahashi historic collection in Malaysian Department of Agriculture (DOA), and Malaysian Agriculture, Research and Development Institute (MARDI). The study manage to discover a new species and 8 new records from Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia. The new species, Nipaecoccus didiki nov.sp. from Sulawesi, Indonesia was completely described and illustrated together with slide mounted specimen photographs. In addition, eight new records were also discovered from Peninsular Malaysia and Indonesia i.e. Antonina thaiensis Takahashi, Ferrisia dasylirii (Cockerell), Hordeolicoccus nephelii (Takahashi), Phenacoccus manihoti Matille-Ferrero, Phenacoccus solani Ferris, Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley, Ratrococcus iceryoides (Green) and Trionymus cynodontis Kiritshenko. Furthermore, 15 genera and 52 mealybugs species infesting fruits in Malaysia and Indonesia were used to build dichotomous key as well discussed further. As a conclusion, these researches on mealybugs from Malaysia and Indonesia were expected to serve as knowledge platform or guidance for governments, privates sector and future mealybug-related researches.,'Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis' is not available,Ph.D. | - |
