Description: This study considers the diplomatic discourse of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) from the perspective of the Discourse Analysis approach which was developed by Norman Fairclough, a modern linguist who integrates the traditional way of textual studies with consideration of the social background that underpins the text of discourse. It strives to explore the significance of the diplomatic discourse of the Prophet (pbuh) with regards to the propagation of Islamic belief and religion; examine the textual features of the diplomatic letters; explain the processes of the discourse i.e. the way the texts are produced, spread and utilised; and elucidate the social process involved in connection with the diplomatic letters. In analysing the texts of the diplomatic letters, this study adopts the descriptive and analytical approach where the analysis of the data is done on the basis of the Discourse Analysis theory of Norman Fairclough which comprises three components, i.e. textual analysis, discourse production and social process. Among the key findings of this study is that the most obvious element in the Prophet's diplomatic letters is none other than the Islamic religion and the propagation thereof. It is also found that the textual features of the letters of the Prophet (pbuh) are mostly moulded in syntactical and lexical cohesion style. Likewise, intertextuality and interdiscursivity are the most discernible characteristics of the diplomatic letters, which shows a textual connectivity with previous texts in a way that reflects clarity of ideas and the supreme linguistic ability of the text producer. As for social process, the Prophet's (pbuh) leadership qualities were evident in the diplomatic initiatives he undertook through the correspondence with the kings and leaders. This study is significant in that it contributes toward an understanding of the relationship between the religious-oriented Arabic linguistic study and the linguistic study of the West. It also helps in showing how a wise leadership that embraces dacwah with wisdom, good advice and learned argumentation is necessary for the accomplishment of the dacwah mission through the diplomatic discourse.,Ph.D
