Internet of Things (IoT) is a fast emerging technology with the promise of significant benefits to individuals, homes, companies, institutions and the whole world at large. This technology is used to connect everyday devices to the network for enabling extra features such as remote accessing, controlling and data acquisition. However, IoT devices are considered as limited resources devices. The nature of these devices adds restriction on incorporating standard protection systems due to the computational complexity nature of such systems that prevents quick response when they are executed on these devices. As a result, IoT is being highly affected in terms of protection. Therefore, researchers are focusing on how to address the development of customized algorithms for IoT that can provide a fully protected system. A buffer attack which is categorized under flooding type of attacks is one of the most dangerous attacks that threaten IoT. Several solutions are proposed in the literature for resolving buffer attacks. Despite these solutions, two types of buffer attacks are still overcoming these solutions. The first one is Event-based attack and the second one is smart stretched short burst attack. Thereby, in this research we propose the new algorithm called Fuzzy-based Buffer Split (FBS) system with the purpose of defending against the two types of buffer attacks. In addition, the proposed FBS with respect to different evaluation measures is evaluated. Building a protection system based on fuzzy has enabled incorporating different rules to explain the resulted behavior of the attacks, which as a result, assists in recognizing them effectively. The proposed work has indicated to the effectiveness and high potential of incorporating FBS as a security layer in nodes of IoT that has limited resources nature. Simulations results have shown that FBS can effectively improve the percentage by 49% in preventing the attacks. Furthermore, it could increase the Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) by 32%, and reduce the overhead by 82 %.,Master of Computer Science,Certification of Master's / Doctoral Thesis" is not available"-
