dc.description | Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is a type of structureless wireless mobile network, in which each node plays the role of router and host at the same time. MANET has gained increased interest from researchers and developers for various applications. Forest fire problem requires continuous monitoring and effective communication technology. As such, disaster response and rescue applications are considered to be a key application of MANET. In spite of numerous routing protocols having been developed for MANET, there is still a lack of inspection of its performance in disaster scenarios. More specifically, almost all the previous works have ignored balancing the flooding for the price of exploiting the energy of the unsafe nodes. In this research, a simulation model for the fire disaster of a forest was simulated based on two well-known MANET routing protocols, reactive Location Aided Routing (LAR) and proactive Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). A comparison of these routing protocols revealed that LAR has a higher performance than OLSR. Therefore, an enhancement of LAR is proposed and implemented in terms of efficiency and reliability in forest fire detection. The new enhancement protocol is known as LAR-Based Reliable Routing Protocol (LARRR). The proposed routing protocol has been evaluated and compared with the Maximise Unsafe Path (MUP) routing algorithm using MATLAB 2015. The evaluation metrics adopted are routing overhead, packet delivery ratio, energy consumption, and end-to-end delay. The results show that the proposed LARRR routing protocol has better performance than the MUP-OLSR algorithm in terms of packet delivery ratio of 46.6%, energy consumption of 418.5%, and 87.22% of routing overhead,Certification of Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available | |
