Description: | Business environment has become fiercely competitive that requires greater interaction between the customers and manufactures. Companies should provide faster deliveries to provide goods and services, and the enterprise must be closely linked to both suppliers and customer. To be competitive, manufacturers need to achieve efficiency and effectiveness through a streamlined planning and control system, such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, which enables good synchronisation and planning in the whole process. Literature review shows that implementation of ERP system as a tool for system integration between departments is relatively low. This issue has been raised due to poor understanding of ERP including benefits, issues and challenges, and implementation. This research looked into the idea of incorporating the project management body of knowledge elements into the framework of ERP implementation. It is also proposed that the three levels of decision making, namely the strategic, tactical and operational are incorporated into the framework. Three objectives were established for this research. The first objective is to examine and classify the benefits of ERP system implementation. The next objective is to determine the issues and challenges of ERP system implementation in an organisation and the third objective focuses on the development of the ERP system implementation framework. The methodology for this research is based on the Iterative Triangulation method. Cause and effect diagram and pareto chart are developed to analyse the issues and challenges in implementing the ERP system. The results of this research are the categorisation of the ERP implementation benefits; the identification of issues and challenges that often occur during pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation phases of ERP implementation; and a new proposed framework for ERP system implementation.,Master |
